Tractor Details:
The 1949 Farmall M came into our school needing a complete restoration. Realizing the engine was seized from the numerous years this tractor sat out in the weather, we completely disassembled and rebuilt the engine. The complete drive train was taken down to its bare bones and rebuilt. Although every aspect of this tractor was new & challenging, as this was our first tractor restoration as a team, we found that paint and body was the most labor intensive and challenging part. The whole restoration was completed in our school with the exception of engine machining and the rebuilding of our generator, starter and radiator. We followed the International Harvester service, parts and owner’s manual to get this tractor as close to as it was originally built. Over 1,500 hours spent on this tractor were definitely worth it as this was a huge learning opportunity to gain skills & knowledge that we could use in the real world and with future restorations.
